Many women think that if a shoe is comfortable for walking, it's surely also comfortable for standing in the kitchen or at work. But the truth, my dear, is that the’mechanics’ of the foot in standing are completely different from walking. Constant standing causes your entire body weight to press on one point, while walking spreads the load with every step.
1. The specification of the ‘prolonged standing’ shoe (Standing)
If your job requires you to stand for hours, like teaching, working at a pharmacy, or even at home, you need a shoe that will be ‘support’ for your foot:
- A wide base (Wide Base): The sole of the shoe must be wide underneath to distribute your body weight, so the pressure doesn't concentrate entirely on the heel.
- Arch support (Arch Support): Prolonged standing wears out the arch of the foot, so in our handmade shoes we make sure to ‘cushion’ the arch so it stays comfortable.
- Natural genuine leather: Because the foot swells a little after prolonged standing, and genuine leather ‘stretches’ and takes the shape of your foot without pressing on it.
2. The specification of the ‘lots of walking’ shoe (Walking)
Walking requires a ‘flexible’ shoe that moves with you like a feather:
- Shock absorption (Shock Absorption): With every step on the asphalt, your foot absorbs an impact. This is where the natural rubber sole comes into play, absorbing the pressure off your knees and back.
- Lightness of weight: A heavy shoe tires the feet, so in our handmade (Handmade) work we make sure it's light and comfortable for quick movement.
A simple comparison so you don't get confused:
| Feature | Shoe for standing | Shoe for walking |
| The sole | Stable and wide | Flexible and bends easily |
| Support | Strong at the heel area | Flexible at the toe area |
| Texture | Soft, delicate leather | Strong, durable leather |
Article 5: How does ‘your gait’ tell you which shoe to wear?
Each of us has a gait different from another's, just like a ‘fingerprint’. If you've noticed your shoe wears down or sinks more on one side than the other, it means your gait has a character of its own, and you need to choose a shoe that’understands it’.
1. Types of gait.. which one are you?
- Balanced gait (Neutral): This is the most pleasant gait; the foot lands on the ground in an orderly way. Here, any of our genuine leather shoes will suit you and pamper you.
- Inward tilt (Overpronation): If your foot tilts inward while walking (mainly for those with flat feet – Flat Feet), you need a shoe whose sole is strong and supportive on the inner side, so your foot doesn't ‘sink’ and tire you out.
- Outward tilt (Supination): If you lean toward the outer edge of your foot, you need a shoe with very high ‘cushioning’ (Cushioning) to protect your ankle from spraining.
2. The ‘wet foot’ test (Wet Foot Test)
To find out what suits you at home, wet your foot with water and stand on cardboard:
- If you saw the entire footprint, it means you need a shoe with very strong ‘arch’ support.
- If you only saw the outer edge of your foot, it means you need an especially soft, flexible shoe.
Why are genuine leather and handmade craftsmanship the solution?
Because the shoe we make by hand (Handmade) isn't like rigid machine work. We can control the shoe's ’shape’ and adapt it to your foot's tilt, and genuine leather keeps ‘breathing’ and sensing your foot's movement, giving it the comfort it deserves.
